In some instances, the portion of a column or facade which needs to be replaced is beyond recognition.  Shannon Stone will work with you to review the overall building elements to help ensure the replacement stone matches your overall design and period.  We can also review the reason for the stones loss of integrity and possibly suggest methods to reduce or eliminate it in the future. Time, as with everything, can take its toll on limestone, but two common issues are improper setting or maintenance.

Limestone Qualities are Unique

There are unique qualities fundamental to Indiana Limestone.  The handling of the stone is not comparable to brick.  In addition to restoration carving, Shannon Stone Co. also provides services and consultation on the environmental and structural factors affecting Indiana Limestone.

We suggest you always review a carvers past work to ensure they can meet the stringent carving requirements of restoration carving.  Whether replacing the head on an eagle or an entire stone, not only must the carving match visually, it must be technically accurate for installation.
